Welcome!

On the surface, “The Last Jete” may seem like a terribly depressing title. It probably makes you think I’ll be lamenting about how my life as a professional prima ballerina for some famous Russian company was destroyed because of an torn ligament, or fractured toe. Curtain closed. Luckily, that’s not what I’ll be blogging about at all.

For those of you who may be new to the ballet community, a jete is a leap where a dancer springs from one foot onto the other, with their legs extended out while airborne. When you pull off a successful grande jete (a grande jete is just a really big jete), soaring through the air unaffected by gravity, you just get that feeling of absolute victory—or at least, I do! Looking at it in that way, “The Last Jete” isn’t dark at all—it’s lifting. (Excuse the pun...)

So yes, I will be writing about ballet. I’ve been dancing with an amateur but serious company for fifteen years. There are tons of wonderful ballet blogs out there already, but a lot of them are from the perspective of people new to ballet, or returning to ballet, and their journeys. My blog will be a little bit different—I’m actually in the middle of the rehearsal process for a show, which you all will undoubtedly be hearing about. I’m hoping that both dancers and people who are just interested in dance will be able to find something they like in my blog, because I’m really excited to hear what you guys have to say. No matter where you come from or how old you are, if you love ballet you’re welcome here.
